Taekwondo is a sporting activity which is compulsory at our school. Students begin learning this martial art from class II under the guidance of taekwondo specialists. Regular training takes place once a week (twice a week including Saturday’s ECA) until class VI.
From the 19th to 20th March 2016, 87 students (36 girls and 51 boys) participated in the Kukkiwon Cup. Our students performed exceptionally well across individual and team activities and made a haul of 29 medals and 2 Championship trophies.
The competition took place at the National Sport Council’s Gym and many schools from Dhaka participated in the event. Participants were aged between 8 to 15 years old and competed across 4 events based on their age group. The four events were; poomse (taekwondo display), high jump board breaking, long jump board breaking and combat. Our students won medals in three out of four events, they only missed out on medals in combat. We were also awarded two Championship trophies for team taekwondo displays (poomse).
From 23rd September to 25th September, selected students participated in the Korean Cup Tournament at the Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation. The students took part in combat and performed in poomse displays and won a total of 20 medals (4 students won gold medals) in the tournament. The taekwondo team won a runners up trophy for their overall performance in combat and poomse.
